The untraceable French jazz band Denis Gancel Quartet have released their debut album, fantastically named Bric a Brac, despite contradicting the spacious ambience of their sound. ‘Ibia’, the fourth track of the album, is a slow and considered lullaby, with the absence of the rhythm section. Lying somewhere between jazz and classical, the unusual and slightly discordant piano chords caress the empty space with tender fingers, occasionally choosing to resolve. Trumpet accompanies with ease and flare, but never overtakes or explodes with ego. The song is thought-provoking, shaping your mind into a place where is feels serene and content. - Ellie Davies
